You Are What You Eat
A well balanced diet is your first step towards a better and healthier life. Certain types of food can help your body function properly, while others can prevent different diseases. When planning a diet, you should take the following into consideration:
1. Everybody knows that fruits and vegetables are an essential part of a well balanced diet. Try to choose a variety of different colored fruits and vegetables to include in your diet plan. Generally speaking, there are five color groups of fruits and vegetables. Each group has its own benefits for your health. Here are just some of those benefits:
Reds – Fruits and vegetables from the red group help preventing heart diseases and some cancer types.
Oranges (Yellows are in this group too) – Orange fruits and veggies are good for your immune system.
Greens – Are good for your bones and teeth as well as for your vision.
Purples (Blues are in this group too) – They help slowing down the aging process and keeping your brain healthy.
Whites – The whites help you maintain blood vessels and heart's health. In addition, they are "Nature's Antibiotics" and help fighting inflammations.
2. One of the common mistakes people do while deciding on a diet plan is they cut one nutrient such as carbohydrates, off of their diet. This is a big mistake. Our body needs carbohydrates as well as proteins and fats. Make sure you keep the variety of food groups in your diet and don't forget to make fruits and vegetables a main part of your diet.
3. Most of us watch TV. Sometimes while we are watching the new episode of our favorite TV series or a new movie, there is a boring part or commercials. If we watch a recorded show on TIVO, we can just skip the boring part, but sometimes we will just get up from the couch and grab a snack. That's OK to eat a snack, but instead of fried potatoes snack or any other unhealthy food, try taking a fruit or a vegetable that you like. It will keep your mouth "busy" without all the fat in traditional snacks.
Remember that healthy diet, combined with consistent exercising and a good weight loss supplement, can help you look and feel better. Since you know yourself better than anyone else, you should know what's good for you. But it doesn't mean you shouldn't ask for a nutritionist's help. The combination of a nutritionist's knowledge and experience together with how you know yourself should create the best diet plan for you.
