Cholesterol Explained
There are two types of cholesterol: HDL (High Density Lipoproteins) and LDL (Low Density Lipoproteins). HDL is considered the good cholesterol and LDL is considered the bad cholesterol. Low levels of HDL and high levels of LDL increase the chances for heart diseases. To check your cholesterol levels, please consult your doctor.
How to Raise HDL Levels?
There are many changes you can make in your life that can make your HDL levels go up. Here are just a few:
1) Exercise - Exercising is one of the ways of raising your HDL levels up. In addition, exercising can help you improve your general health status and it can also be fun. There are many exercises you can choose from. Here are just a few ideas: stepping, push ups, tennis, football or ballet.
2) Lose Weight – Besides improving your look, mobility and confidence, losing weight can also help you getting better HDL levels.
3) Quit Smoking - If you smoke, one of the advantages of stopping it is that it can help raising your good cholesterol levels.
How to Lower LDL Levels?
Eat Healthy Food – Make sure the food you eat has low amounts of saturated fats and trans fats. Walnuts for an example, are very good for lowering LDL levels. Red wine is good for LDL levels (as well as HDL levels) too, just make sure you don't drink too much. If you don't want to drink alcohol, you can eat red grapes (with the skin) instead.
